Spanish-speaking LDS congregations nearly double in 6 years.
An article entitled Changing face of the Mormon faith in the Mesa Arizona East Valley Tribune reports that the number of Spanish-speaking LDS congregations in the US nearly doubled between 2000 and 2006. Citing an LDS Church spokesman “in Utah”, the article claims that the number of Spanish-speaking LDS congregations in the US increased from 389 in 2000 to 639 in 2006, an increase of 64%.
The article, which looked at Spanish-speaking members in Mesa, also notes that the number of Spanish-speaking congregations in and around Mesa increased from 6 in 2002 to 13 today.
